All practices will begin at the middle school.

Home Meets will take place at the high school so pick up on those days will be there. On days of away meets, the bus will drop off students at the high school also.  Middle Schoolers should have all their belongings with them. Spectators are welcome at all the meets to cheer the runners on. I will expect all runners at practice on time ready to run.  I expect to know ahead of time if someone is unable to attend a practice or meet. Dress according to the weather. We will have practice even in the rain. I appreciate parents being prompt when picking up children.

Runners should have a good pair of running shoes and comfortable clothes-- t shirt, shorts, and warmer clothes as the weather turns cool.

No experience necessary

All abilities are welcome

A positive attitude is a must:)

About Middle School Cross Country—The goal is to foster a love of running! Preteens are developing physically at all different rates.  Many boys and girls will have growth spurts this year or next. Over use of any muscles is the greatest cause of injury, therefore we will be varying the workouts to build strong muscles, endurance, and increase speed.

We will talk about nutrition, especially eating healthy and drinking plenty of water daily.

We will learn the importance of stretching before and after a run.

We will foster teamwork – running together, cheering each other on, and celebrating all of our individual and team accomplishments.

About Mrs. Hayes:

I have been running since I was 12 years old.  I ran in high school and college and have continued running ever since.  Some years I run more than others. I have had many injuries and setbacks; I have also had many accomplishments that I am proud of.  I have run many 5Ks, 10Ks, 5 milers, half marathons and finished the Boston Marathon--once. I do not consider myself an expert on running, but I love to run and enjoy sharing that love with young people.  At this stage in my life I run for my health and peace of mind. I have found that running gives me time to think. It de-stresses me. Running makes me happy and I want to share that happiness. I am looking forward to coaching the middle school team and hope to encourage the runners to work hard and always try their best.
