2020 Curiosity Challenge
2020 Curiosity Challenge
Curiosity Challenge
This is an assignment everyone should complete-it will count as a classwork grade (an easy 100 if you follow instructions and submit on time).
It must be
completed and submitted to Mrs. GravesonPayne no later than Monday, 1/13/20
so that I can sort and put the entries in the mail as one packet for the Cambridge Science Festival's Curiosity Challenge.
You will complete the entry label in class tomorrow or when you turn the assignment in. Typically I submit all entries to the contest-please email or see me if you have any concerns.
What are you curious about?
Assignment:
Whatever it is, create original
artwork or a creative writing piece
about your curiosity.
Creative writing can be a poem, short story, or essay (
maximum 500 words
).
Artwork must be
2-dimensional
(drawing, painting, photography, and computer generated work), and must fit on a 9" x 12" page (printer paper is 8.5" x 11" and is also acceptable). Bold colors are most effective and reproduce best (thin magic markers work well). (I strongly suggest completing any drawings in pencil first, then outlining in thin marker. For full credit on this assignment, your artwork must either be fully colored or artistically shaded.)
Artwork/writing combinations are also acceptable.
Winning entries are compiled and published in a book, and student winners and their families will be invited to the Curiosity Awards, which in past years has included a brunch at MIT, which has typically been held on the last Saturday of April vacation. Douglas Middle School students have been selected as winners in each of the past 7 years.
