Just as teachers encourage students to continue reading throughout the summer to solidify and retain reading skills, we feel the same attention should be given to mathematics. Your child has worked hard this year in 5th grade and learned about many mathematical concepts. Next year in 6th grade, students will be learning new skills that build upon those that were covered. To succeed, your child needs to be well prepared. Therefore, we are providing your child with Summer Math Calendars for July and August. Each calendar contains a problem per day which are designed to review many of the most important concepts your child studied this year. We believe review over the summer will keep math skills fresh in your child’s mind and help him/her be ready for the next grade. If you are looking for other ways to review in addition to the calendars, we encourage you to practice basic multiplication and division facts as these are the foundation upon which more complicated math concepts build. We ask that you help your child spend time working on the calendar problems this summer. Talk to him/her about the problems and the methods they used to solve them. Completed calendars are due by Friday, September 5, 2025 to Mrs. Findlay, your 6th grade Math teacher, and will be counted as a grade. Thank you for helping your child to be more prepared for 6th grade! We wish you a wonderful and restful summer!
