A huge congratulations to last week’s winners:

👏 Bryce Duclos
👏 Madeline Benjamin
👏 Colin Potter

A growth mindset means believing you can get smarter and better at something through effort, practice, and learning from mistakes.

Last week’s survey asks:
👉 When you make a mistake on your schoolwork, how often do you ask your teacher for ways you can do better next time?

Remember — this isn’t about how smart you are right now. It’s about how you respond to challenges and whether you take action to improve.

💡 Think of your brain like a muscle — the more you practice, ask for help, and challenge yourself, the more it grows!

🎉 Complete the next survey to be entered into a Counseling Department prize drawing!

Our 8th grade students had an incredible learning experience during their recent field trip to the Edward M. Kennedy Institute! 🇺🇸

Students stepped into the role of U.S. Senators as they participated in a simulated Senate session, engaging in a live floor debate on real legislation currently pending before the Senate. Throughout the experience, they explored the issue from multiple perspectives, shared their ideas, and ultimately cast their votes—just like lawmakers do in Washington, D.C.

In addition, students took part in a hands-on Electoral College program, where they learned about its history, purpose, and significance in our democracy. They also examined ongoing conversations around the Electoral College, including why some advocate for its reform or replacement.

We are so proud of our students for their thoughtful participation, collaboration, and willingness to engage in meaningful civic discourse. What an amazing opportunity to bring learning to life! 👏

In their adaptations unit, 7th grade students learned about camouflage - a set of colorings or marking on an animal that help it blend in with the surroundings and increase its chance for survival. Ms. Copland challenged students to camouflage a butterfly in the science classroom with a handful of guidelines. After all the butterflies were hung, other teachers, acting as “butterfly predators” went hunting to find as many as they could. The last ones to be found were better able to adapt to their environment, meaning they would be more likely to survive and reproduce, passing on their genes for future generations. How many butterflies can you find in these pictures?

March, 2026

Dear Middle School Parents/Guardians:

Per Massachusetts Department of Public Health regulations, school nurses are required to conduct several health screenings per grade level during the school year. Among these screenings are the following:

  • Heights and weights on grade 7 students. A Body Mass Index (BMI) will then be calculated. Results will be mailed home upon request.  (Screening in March)

  • Students in grade 7 will have their vision and hearing screened. Results that are found to be out of normal limits will be reported to parents with follow up instructions. (Screening in March)

  • Students in grades 6-8 will be individually screened for scoliosis. An advance notice will be sent home just prior to the screening date so that the girls will be able to wear appropriate clothing for this screening (sports bra or bathing suit top). Results that are found to be out of normal boundaries will be reported to parents with follow up instructions. (Screening TBA)

  • Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) for 7th grade. Additional information will be sent home regarding this program prior to screening, (Screening TBA)

These screenings will take place during the school year. If you wish to exclude your student from any of the screenings please e-mail me at kcampbell@douglasps.net

Sincerely,

Kathleen A. Campbell, BSN, RN, NCSN

In celebration of Pi Day (3/14), our 6th grade students enjoyed listening to the “200 Digits of Pi” song and a read-aloud of Sir Cumference and the First Round Table. Students were then challenged to memorize as many digits of π as they could to compete in a friendly contest. The top finishers earned their choice of an individual pie! 🥧 Here are our “Final Four”: 🥇 1st Place: Olivia L. — 57 digits 🥈 2nd Place: Kira W. — 50 digits 🥉 3rd Place: Addison N. — 23 digits 🏅 4th Place (tie): Payzleigh R. and Camille R. — 21 digits We also had several honorable mentions! Students who successfully memorized the first 10–15 digits of pi earned a Pi Day water bottle sticker. Great work to everyone who participated and made Pi Day so much fun! 🥧📐
