Dear Middle School Parents/Guardians:
Per Massachusetts Department of Public Health regulations, school nurses are required to conduct several health screenings per grade level during the school year. Among these screenings are the following:
Heights and weights on grade 7 students. A Body Mass Index (BMI) will then be calculated. Results will be mailed home upon request. (Screening in March)
Students in grade 7 will have their vision and hearing screened. Results that are found to be out of normal limits will be reported to parents with follow up instructions. (Screening in March)
Students in grades 6-8 will be individually screened for scoliosis. An advance notice will be sent home just prior to the screening date so that the girls will be able to wear appropriate clothing for this screening (sports bra or bathing suit top). Results that are found to be out of normal boundaries will be reported to parents with follow up instructions. (Screening TBA)
Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) for 7th grade. Additional information will be sent home regarding this program prior to screening, (Screening TBA)
These screenings will take place during the school year. If you wish to exclude your student from any of the screenings please e-mail me at kcampbell@douglasps.net
Sincerely,
Kathleen A. Campbell, BSN, RN, NCSN

Students conducted research on topics related to Ancient Egypt and then chose a creative way to showcase their learning. Projects included model pyramids, informational posters, and engaging slideshows that highlighted everything from pharaohs and daily life to pyramids and Egyptian culture.
It was wonderful to see students think like historians and researchers, while also getting creative with their presentations. The classroom was filled with impressive projects, thoughtful research, and plenty of excitement as students shared what they learned.
Great job to all of our 6th graders for their hard work and creativity! 👏

High school counselors visited the middle school and worked with students to review course offerings, answer questions, and help them begin planning their schedules for 9th grade. It was a great opportunity for students to learn more about the academic programs and pathways available to them at the high school.
Thank you to our high school counseling team for taking the time to support our students and help make the transition to high school a smooth and exciting process! 📚

Middle school students had the chance to ask questions about the program, learn about classes offered at the high school, and even try driving the team’s large robots! It was an exciting hands-on experience, and our students had a great time exploring the technology and learning more about what they can look forward to in the future.
A big thank you to middle school instructors Mrs. Findlay and Mrs. Bronzo, as well as high school instructor Mr. Riordan, for helping make this opportunity possible and for supporting such a great learning experience for our students! 🚀

Dear 8th Grade Parents/Guardians,
We are excited to begin the course selection process for the 2026-2027 school year and to introduce our Program of Studies! (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1G0YseC1xg9CVwRUceReC3pKjcKKrBbe3eg_8RY74FPs/edit?usp=sharing) This is an important time for students to carefully consider their academic plans and future goals. We encourage parents and guardians to be actively involved in reviewing and approving their student’s course requests through PowerSchool.
Middle School students will review the course selection process during a visit from the High School Counseling Department on Wednesday March 11, 2026. A link to the presentation can be found here: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1eipHiTicqHeFIozeQWXYZMJNyNYFhf2RbRZXnF8WPJo/edit?usp=sharing
Students will make their course selections for next year using PowerSchool, and we ask that parents/guardians log in to review and approve these selections. The deadline for students and parents/guardians to complete this process is Wednesday, March 18, 2026. Students will be meeting with school counselors from the high school during the school day on Thursday, March 19, 2026 to review their selections.
Course Reconsideration Process
If a student is not recommended for an Honors course they would like to take, they must complete a Reconsideration Form (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1M98cWwM7bcN3vZ3P1ZFGB4kLzTAfokgvVUGuzUMczZQ/edit?usp=sharing) to request placement in the class.
